How to Not Feel Hungry:

4 Tips to Master Your Stomach

First off, let me just say that feeling hungry is a totally normal body sensation. It occurs when the stomach is empty and needs to be refilled with food, and it’s sign that you’re healthy!

Appetite tends to fade when you’re sick; think about the last time you had the flu, or if you’ve ever had chemotherapy, or if you’ve ever been severely depressed.

However, sometimes this sensation can become excessive and difficult to control, which leads to overeating, late night binging, or just making unhealthy food choices. Here are some tips on how NOT to feel hungry:

How to Not Feel Hungry:

1. Eat nutrient-dense foods.

Eating foods that are high in fiber and protein can help you feel full for longer periods of time. Examples of nutrient-dense foods include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and beans.

If your goal is to lose wait, and you want to put minimal thought into it, then the absolute simplest thing you can do is to just eat raw fruits and vegetables. Eat as much as you want. Eat until your stomach literally hurts, and you HAVE to stop.

The great thing is that no matter how much you eat, you’re almost guaranteed to lose weight anyway. There just isn’t enough fat in raw fruits and vegetables to make you gain weight.

If you go this route, be prepared for increased energy and a more balanced mood. Super healthy diets tend to do that.

Even if you're not trying to lose weight....

Even if you’re in pretty good shape, it still behooves you to rest your stomach by going mostly raw once a week.

Personally, I keep it as simple as possible. I don’t count calories. I don’t estimate how much fat I’m taking in. I just cut up a couple apples, carrots, and stalks of celery, and I throw it all into a bowl. I can munch on that all day.

Not only does this give my stomach, liver, and kidneys a day of rest, it re-sensitizes me to things like coffee, hot sauce, and sweets, so that when I DO indulge, I don’t need a lot.

How to Not Feel Hungry:

2. Drink water.

Dehydration can often be mistaken for hunger. Get yourself a good insulated water bottle, and sip on it throughout the day to reduce hunger and improve overall health.

Water is good for your skin, kidneys, and liver. Whenever you’re hungry and you want to try to fight it, just take a few big gulps of water! Sometimes that’s all you need.

How to Not Feel Hungry:

3. Get enough sleep!

Lack of sleep can lead to an increase in hunger hormones. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night. The key to getting quality sleep is to always go to bed at the same time.

This normalizes your circadian rhythms, which boosts your mood and energy level. When you feel good, you become much less likely to self-medicate with “comfort food.”

DO NOT underestimate the power of a normalized sleep pattern. I ignored this while working night shift for almost 10 years, and my health deteriorated as a result. All that misery went away once I quit that job and started sleeping right!

How to Not Feel Hungry:

4. Engage in regular physical activity.

Regular exercise can help to reduce feelings of hunger, especially hunger associated from stress, depression, and boredom. It will boost your metabolism and improve your overall health. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per day.

An additional bonus is that when you workout, the food you eat tends to become muscle instead of fat. Whether you’re a guy or a girl, this is something that improves how you look and feel.

It’s important to remember that feeling hungry is a normal bodily sensation, and that it is not always possible or healthy to suppress feelings of hunger completely. However, by following these tips, you can learn to control your hunger and make healthier food choices.

And now I’m going to ask you what I should have asked at the beginning of this article:

How to Not Feel Hungry:

I’d say 99 times out of 100, it’s because you’re trying to lose weight.

Getting in shape is an excellent goal! But to achieve a slimmer, healthier body, the key isn’t just to suppress hunger. It’s to change your overall lifestyle from one that eventually results it obesity, lethargy, and a compromised immune system, to one that continually strengthens your body over the long run.

To do that, you’ve got re-program your mind. Trying to not think about eating is like not thinking of an elephant. The more you try, the more you just can’t help thinking about it.

Instead of trying so hard to suppress your desire to eat food, you should flood your mind with thoughts that FORCE you make healthy decisions. Most thoughts are just habits, including the ones the cause poor eating habits.

When you change what you habitually think about, you automatically start doing things that inevitably result natural, healthy weight loss.
